Been modeling for years now and recently bought a silhouette portrait along with some oramask 810. Been playing around with it now for a few days and the software is easy to use, size and trace all the markings I've put into it. Would love to learn more about it and how you guys use it.

Hello folks! found this forum after looking at the possibility of making my own masks for painting and I saw a link on LSP. I’ve recently spent ages cutting out some masks by hand for a few models especially canopies and I’ve tried the liquid masks but don’t necessarily like them either. Either way it’s frustrating so I’ve decided to look at the silhouette portrait cutter and wanted to find out more about the whole topic before I commit to buying one given the investment.

Hi all Just unboxed my Cameo 4 today, managed to get it set up, and imported some files into my library! Step 1 of many...😅 Thanks to everyone who has uploaded files so far, they're going to be a great help. I'll fumble my way along and hopefully get some in there as well one day! Now the learning begins!! Iain

Hi guys, A few days ago I signed up on the forum. Modelling for more than 47 years now, I'm a member of LSP and also build planes in 172 scale and sometimes smaller. Occasionally a car finds its way to my workbench. Seeing on LSP what is possible with a cutter, now it's the time to buy one! It will be a Silhouette Portrait, its relatively small size is very convenient for me. Thanks Kev for letting me join the forum! Cheers, Peter

I've been a long time off and on modeler when family, time, and situations allowed. We retired, moved from PA to TN (grand kids) and trying to find a lot of time to model both in plastic and electronic. http://www.military-meshes.com/forum/showthread.php?7529-Lockheed-(Vega)-PV-1-Ventura&p=88257#post88257 I have a Cameo 4 (early Christmas present) that I'm in the process of figuring out. The first masks that I've created are ID letters on the tail of a 1/48 "Dave". The next step is to actually use them. 😅😅 Dave

Hi everybody, Just arrived here. Been a modelbuilder for life but always struggeling with decals. Used to make my own masks with tape but now I am trying to control the Silhouette. Not that good with computers I am afraid. First cut was the serial on this Beaufighter Currently working on a F4J Phantom, all masks here with the Silhouette so far. Now making the stars and bars. Glad to be here!! Rick

Cheers everybody, I have joined a few weeks ago but did not really have the time to check in. My name is Ben, I'm a modeller from Belgium and own a Silhouette Portrait. Some among you may know me as "Starfighter" on LSP or as "Scale Navy Stuff" on Facebook. Looking forward to many interesting exchanges over here!

Just joined, thank you so much for creating this forum. I have resisted the urge to buy a cutter because I thought the learning curve would be much to steep for me. Exploring the site has has shown me what is in store for those of us that take the plunge. This isn't just about cutting paint masks (which is fantastic in and of it self) but designing and fabricating things like fins for missiles or countless other uses creative people can dream up to do with this tech. Excited to be here. A big thank you to all of the members that post their work and help others learn how to do this! Sincerely, Greg

Looking to get started in mask making and am a total novice. I'll be looking at the Silouette line of cutters but not sure what I need or what I might need in the future as my skill and experience grows. I see a lot of us from LSP on here and any advice is appreciated.

Hi all Thanks for letting me be part of this group. My name is Philippe (Flip) Hendrickx and i'm an avid modeller from Belgium. My main interest is airplanes (all scales) but having said that, i'm interested in all aspects of our hobby. I recently bought a 2nd hand Silhouette Cameo 3 cutter so i'm rather new this, so I hope to learn a lot here and to be able to contribute as well as soon as possible. Best regards Philippe

Thanks for the add. Newbie here, picked up a Silhouette Cameo a couple months back and have been trying it out. Upgraded to the designer edition and downloaded Inkscape to work in. Found this group through Scale Modelers Critique Group. Still learning the programs and trying to find the best way to trace decal sheets. So far it seems better to work in Inkscape and use the bezier tool to trace. Using the trace tool in Silhouette wasn't working great for me, so I'm open to suggestions. 1/35 armor guy Jim Guld

Good morning everybody. I heard about this site for the excellent On the Bench Podcast and thought I would give it a go. My name is Gary I am 56 and now enjoying enforced retirement due to disability. Modelling keeps me sane and my biggest difficulties are with painting and weathering so I am hoping that this site will give me some good tips and tricks. Cheers all Gary

Hi, my name is Jim and I am here by a judges order..............wait, this is a different group. Think I found reference to this site on BritModeller while trying to look up info on Cricuts vs Silhouettes. Trying to figure out if I wanna dive into this crazy Paint Mask world. In the process of completing my first model with almost all masks (only the kill marks were not masks)............used Montex masks. What to do, what to do, what to do?

Hi everyone, great to see a group dedicated to mask cutting. I've had a Portrait for about four years now so have quite a few files to upload (when I get a chance) - some generic, some quite specific. I really enjoy this aspect of modelling and always look for ways to utilise the cutter in order to improve my builds. Hoping to share my limited knowledge and pick up a few tips along the way. Martin

Hello everybody, I'm from Italy, building all scales but shifting to larger ones as eyesight weakens while aging. Mainly aeroplanes but with occasional ground, space and water vehicles. Recently purchase a cutting plotter and starting to explore self building paint masks. Thank you for accepting me. Ciao Giuseppe
