  1. I would have expected better (using Portrait 3 with Artool Ultra Mask), but most of the solutions have been mentioned already. As a last resort you could try superimposing two masks with the imperfections in a different place, so the net result is a circle. Other than that, post-spray touch-up with a brush is not ideal, but could be acceptable.

    Spitfire Tr-9-G-CCCA.studio3

I debated whether to put this in "Military" or "Civil", but decided that as the aircraft has a Civilian registration it's probably more appropriate here. If that's incorrect, please let me know.

This is an alternative scheme for the Airfix Tr9 two-seat Spitfire. In fact, it is the boxtop option (Irish Air Corps no 161) at a later point in its existence. It wore this scheme from about 2009-2010 for a few years, but now flies wearing its original serial number, PV202, and the codes "JW". The full history can be found here under that number: http://www.airhistory.org.uk/spitfire/p094.html

A good set of photos of this bird by various photographers at various points in its career can be found on ABPic and no doubt on other sites. https://abpic.co.uk/pictures/search?registration=G-CCCA&date_taken=&information=&tag_fields=%5B%5D

  3. Hs-123-WS

General masks for ICM 1/32 Hs 123: will fit any boxing, as the plastic is the same in each case. Has been used on my model https://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?/topic/103608-icm-hs-123-a-1/

    File contains:

Masks for windscreen - external only. One spare set provided. Note that as far as I can tell from photos, the outer edges of the windscreen were unframed, and only the lower frame and the central uprights need painting. If this is incorrect, please message me.

Masks for main wheel centres. One spare pair provided.

Masks for tail wheel centre. One spare pair provided.

Mask for engine mount, part E7, so you don't paint over where the glue goes.

  4. Hi Davy, welcome aboard. We're a small but friendly bunch, with plenty of knowledge between us.

I use a Portrait 3 too - it's a useful machine, and dooes everything I need it to.

    HurricaneIIc-LE336.studio3

Main markings for a Hurricane IIc of 34 Sqn, Palel, India, 1943-44.  It had an interesting colour scheme according to the reference I found: a variant of Azure Blue underneath, with Dark Earth/Dark Green in a modified pattern above.  The Azure is there as many aircraft in this theatre at this time were diverted from their original destination of the Middle East, so carried a desert scheme originally.   The code letter is white as far as I can tell, and the spinner is said to be "India White", the very pale blue used in the centre of SEAC roundels.  Here's the original courtesy of "tomthounaojam" on Britmodeller.

Sized for the Arma Hobby 1/48 Kit, but no doubt adaptable to other scales.  The tropical filter and underwing racks are not used in the kit markjing options, but are included on the sprues, so if you have the boxing with the Night Intruder on the front you're good to go: that's the one I used.

    Includes spares of each marking.

  6. This is the Arma Hobby 1/48 Hurricane done from the box.  OK, but being me it's not absolutely according to the instructions.   I went for a tropicalised variant from 34 Sqn in India 1943-1944.  This utilised the tropical filter which is supplied in the kit, but not used by the supplied decal options; this is also true of the bombs: I replaced the kit bombs (which are supplied but not used) with a pair from ICM's RAF WWII weapons set.

It also had an interesting colour scheme according to the reference I found: a variant of Azure Blue underneath, with Dark Earth/Dark Green in a modified pattern above.  The Azure is there as many aircraft in this theatre at this time were diverted from their original destination of the Middle East, so carried a desert scheme originally.    Here's the original courtesy of "tomthounaojam" on Britmodeller.

All markings painted with masks cut on my trusty Portrait 3 - apart from those in the cockpit and on the bombs, no decals were harmed in making this model.

Not my best model, I'm afraid - these things happen - but I'm mostly happy with it.

  7. Hi Bogdan, welcome aboard.  Those models are a most impressive introduction.

Some smal or complicated details are decals - but not too many of them.

That's certainly how I work, and (I suspect) most of us - there are some things in some scales that cannot be done, as they are too complex or physically too small for the cutter.

    that looks great Kev

the nose turned out exceptionally well, how did you find doing the checker pattern?

Checks can be a fiddly to get right, but it's very rewarding when you do.  If you're interested, I did a detailed WIP: they're not perfect, but good enough imo.

It was a bit fiddly I have to confess, and they didn't turn out perfectly, but then the real things were probably a little agricultural too. I think they look OK...

They do indeed.  Nice Pony Kev, just shows that these old kits can scrub up very well.
