October 28, 2025Oct 28 Hello everyone, I saw this site in a Britmodeller thread and thought I'd take a look. I'm a 1/32 WW2 aircraft modeller, with very occasional trips to break scale into 1/24 (I'm looking at you, Airfix Typhoon...).In the big scales, I much prefer to paint insignia and codes, so this looks like an excellent place.I have just spent a couple of days in Inkscape creating masks for some of the stencils on the Airscale B-P Defiant, and am eagerly awaiting delivery of a Silhouette Portrait 4 to see if they are actually cuttable... :-) Edited October 28, 2025Oct 28 by Chaotic Mike Typo
October 28, 2025Oct 28 Welcome aboard, Mike! There's a version of the airscale Defiant kit decals represented as cut files here on the site, produced by Max Williams. Of course, if you're planning on different markings, then this isn't really relevant! Looking forward to what you come up with.Kev
October 29, 2025Oct 29 aboard, there are a few here who are also on BM, and if you ever frequent LSP (I assume you've at least looked it over, given the scales you mention) you'll also find some familiar "handles".
November 13, 2025Nov 13 Morning Mike, and welcome. I have been watching your Defiant progress over on BM, it’s going well! Have fun with your cutter and be sure to come back if you need any tips of help. Max
December 14, 2025Dec 14 Author After a bit of to-ing and froing and determining that 1manarmy can laser-cut teeny things much better than I can, I just bought the necessary sheet for the Defiant. It's witchcraft, I tell you! However, I have also independently been using Inkscape to develop SVG outline files for generic RAF WW2 codes, roundels and stars and bars. These appear to be well within the resolution of the Silhouette blade. The squadron codes are based upon the RAF851ATH font file but tweaked slightly8" serials are based on a sans serif font definition but with modifications to remove descenders from 'J' and 'Q'Roundels and stars and bars developed myself, using information gleaned from the net. However, I have also independently been using Inkscape to develop SVG outline files for generic RAF WW2 codes, roundels and stars and bars. These appear to be well within the resolution of the Silhouette blade. Is there any interest in my uploading these, or am I just retreading work everybody else has already done? I really should have looked first!
December 14, 2025Dec 14 I don't see any harm in having multiple options available. If it's something you're happy to do, then I say go for it!Kev
