MeneMene Posted March 18 Posted March 18 This problem is driving me insane. I've made my masks, cut with a Siser Juliet, with the blade as shallow as I can possibly make it while still making the cut through the vinyl. Now for the life of me I can't get the cut stencil to cleanly come off of the backing with the transfer tape. Here I have weeded out the background, and the pattern is sitting on the backing. The background material I pulled off separated just fine, after I carefully separated a corner with a knife blade. I have already laid down my white paint, and want to apply this marking as a mask, so that when I'm done painting the aircraft I just remove the tape revealing the pattern underneath. Here I laid down some frisket film on top, pressed it down very firmly. When I pull off, the stencil stays on the backing. When I carefully roll the backing off, it goes so far as to rip the paper and a layer of the backing stays adhered to the stencil. I just can't figure out how to get the pattern cleanly off the backing material. Any advice would be appreciated. 1 Quote
Kevin Futter Posted March 20 Posted March 20 Welcome aboard, sir! This sound like an odd problem, and I've never experienced it myself. If I had to guess, I'd say the sample of Oramask you're using is faulty. Maybe someone else has a better idea? Kev Quote

Kev I found that if I "pre-loosened" it, took a blade and carefully lifted up some corners, it would stick better to the transfer tape. But only the thicker, less transparent kind, which makes it difficult to accurately position. This makes me think it's something to do with how it's cut, as if the vinyl is being pressed into the backing somehow and needs to be loosened. But as I said, if I cut it any shallower I get incomplete cuts/edges. 1 Quote
Mozart Posted March 24 Posted March 24 I know it’s an enlarged picture but your transfer sheet looks a bit odd, and to be honest I have never had much success with Frisket. My go-to is Cricut transfer film, very clear for accurate stencil positioning but firm enough to hold the stencil. Worth a try? Max Quote
denders Posted March 25 Posted March 25 I've been using frisket, and I usually find that I need to use the tip of a x-acto knife to get the masking material started. There's usually no problem from there. I've been using Artool Ultra Mask which is very similar to 810 in appearance. Quote
