So many questions !
I'll echo all the good advice that's been mentioned by the more experienced folks Similar to Timbacat, I generally use oracal 810 for most items like insignia, numbers, etc and tamiya sheets for canopies there's a fair bit of technique to learn, this site is a great resource for getting started...and it's a wonderful thing when you peel that mask off leaving a great looking insignia

Tips for creating a Canopy mask
I usually end up doing what's been mentioned - take measurements, then start with a base file I might have downloaded from here, a scan or scratch if need be then adjust based on measurements if I've ended up slightly off when applying the mask, I'll correct with masking fluid and continue on or if it's really off I'll cut a corrected masking sheet

1-48 f4f-4 tamiya insignia camo.studio3 Hi there, insignia, numbering and camo for the Tamiya 1/48 F4F-4, white 28 on Guadalcanal numbering created with USN font then converted to path so I believe shouldn't be a problem if you dont have the font installed rest traced from instructions some spares and always recommend to do your own dimension checks -

Source of Oracal 810 in Canada or Calgary?
Thanks Harry, I did find a place in Ontario called TheAshStickers and got a couple of rolls, but looks like they might have closed shop I also found this place which I have not yet tried but seems to be priced decently https://www.signsupplycanada.com/oramask-810-stencil-films-c-90_635_446/ but the Kitmasx might be a good option, and they carry other stencil masks like 1 man army which is good when I'm ready to order more 810 I'll see what they have

Why Use Paint Masks?
perfect example Kev it's frustrating sometimes with all the work put into the build, paint and detail then something like that happens ☹️ for me it's two things 1) they used paint on the real things, so using masks looks much better and more authentic representation 2) for the life of me I don't know why but the silvering gods DO NOT LIKE ME

Roundels not really round - do i have unrealistic expectations?
what you have there is much much better results, definitely better I created simple circles at 5mm and 2.5mm, centred them both and then put a small cutout square around them printed two of them on oramask 810 similar to yours, there are slight imperfections on the cut the closer you zoom in, personally nothing that I would be overly worried about i've also been trying to compare the absolute round, initially they looked ok, then perhaps off slightly on the lower right a bit but at this point my eye's are probably done for the day after work and looking back and forth between them isn't helping pics are on a iphone, about an inch off the mask note the 3rd pic is the sections peeled off, thus not correctly centered

Silhouette CAMEO5α after Christmas sale, trying to decide between the "Portrait 4" and the "Cameo 5"
interesting, the lower adhesion is an interesting point I didn't know there was an 810S, but google says it's a solvent based adhesion so better for wet applications 'such as paint' but my guess would be @denders is right with half the sticking power
