  1. Hi All! I've ordered some Oramask 810 and looking forward to playing with it with my Silhouette cutter. I'm curious about using transfer tape to move complex designs (Enterprise Aztec masks, anyone?) from backing paper onto a model. My understanding is that the 810 is pretty low-tack, and the only transfer tape I've used up til now has been pretty strong. I've no idea how that combo would work well together. Is there a better choice than the transfer tape I've been using with Oracal 651? Thanks in advance! Chris
  2. Hello, Here the Tarangus 1/72 SAAB JA37 Viggen, using my paint-masks. I used a Silhouette Portrait for the canopy, wheels and landing gear wheels. The splinter cammo was made using Maestro Models masking set. Painted using MRP paints.
  3. ICM's excellent 1/32 scale Gladiator I shown in 56 squadron colours. K8000 was definitely a 56 Squadron aeroplane, whether it had the famous red and white chequers has yet to be proven! All markings including the firebird on the tail fin designed and cut using the Cameo. The firebird was the limit of the cameo's capabilities I think and was tidied up afterwards with a fine brush.

  5. Hi, Have joined following a posting on Facebook. Delighted to see this forum as I'm just getting started with developing/creating masks, etc. To date I have been looking at what cutter to buy and decided on a Silhouette Cameo 4. Advice from others steered me to a Silhouette and as I would like to cut any material I saw the Cameo as the best option. Did order a machine but supplier never despatched so just sorting that out and I'll get another ordered. Following all posts with great interest. P

  7. Yep! 100% Agreed Max! I got the DE software only to be able to import Vectors, but the nesting feature and other bits proved to be useful as well. So far the DE does everything I need, and have not lacked for anything yet. One of THE most useful features in the Silhouette software (which IIRC is available in the base form) IMHO is the "Edit Points" feature. It allows you to pull/straighten/curve or in general tweak and image to your liking after it has been put through the outlining procedure to be able to cut.
  8. These were copied right from the actual Bandai mask sets available elsewhere. I just couldnt get them when I needed them, so just imported and sized them up on the Silhouette. Turned out quite well I think. The Bandai SW kits are all AMAZING imho:

First attempt at using my new Portrait 2. National markings and numbers were painted using the masks, the heart nose art is a decal and the wolf's head is a mix of masks, decal and brush paint. I used the Zotz sheet, scanned in the parts I needed, edited them and cut on the machine...
  10. Thanks Mike, proves to me that the Designer edition does everything I need!
  11. Hello Chris. I mostly use the same as the masking material, Oramask 810 in my case, but a clear Frisket-type has advantages because you can position the mask more easily due to its clarity. Max
  12. Ok, I thinking of adding some kind of instruction or part callout for the masks, to make it easier to apply them correctly.
  13. If you do update it, you can replace the existing file directly with a newer version - in theory! No one has done it yet, so it remains an untested feature. Kev
  14. My pleasure 🙂 This one is still WIP since I haven't completed the build yet, so I might make some adjustments 😉
  15. Wow, that is gorgeous! Kev

  16. At the moment, the best place for something like this is under the National Insignia category. We have one set up for Aircraft - Military, but our AFV section is sadly empty right now. I guess the preponderance of uploaded masks were always going to be for military aircraft! Kev

We've just grown to our first 100 members, which is great! Thanks to everyone who has joined and supported the site so far. It's still a work in progress, and has plenty of room to grow and evolve just yet. Here's to the next 100 members! Kev
  18. Thanks, Brian. With my familiarity with AutoCAD, it would require no learning at all to draw what I need, then convert, so that's what I was hoping for.
  19. Just finished cutting the Red Top fins from 10 thou plastic card, here's the successful settings I used: Fins just snap easily out of the plastic sheet.

  21. Interesting idea, Brian. While I've yet to grab even one Bandai kit, I think it's almost inevitable that I eventually will.
