	Having just shelled out several hundred dollars in annual costs to keep Scale Model Paint Masks running, I've come to realise that it's not financially tenable for me to continue to do so. Without sponsorship or benefaction, I'm humbly going to have to ask for your collective assistance in defraying the running costs of the site. To that end, I've set up a new PayPal Donate button (below), with which you can donate any amount of your choosing, from a single dollar upwards. Any amount will help!

	Just a quick heads-up about an impending major update to the forum software, which will take us from v4 to v5 - essentially, a whole new platform. Not only will this make wholesale changes to the look and functionality of the site, but the upgrade has to be performed manually (or at least partly so). I'll try to provide you with a specific window during which I plan to perform the upgrade, but I'll need to do a full site backup first, and the forums will probably be unavailable for the duration.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	One point to reiterate that will affect all members right off the bat is that, once the upgrade is complete, you will need to sign in the your email address (the one associated with your SMPM account) and usual password; using your display name ("Kevin Futter" in my case) will no longer work.

	<p>
		For a long time now, the server Scale Model Paint Masks is hosted on has been slowly becoming obsolete, and I've been trying to find the time to either upgrade it or migrate to a new one. Things are coming to a head now, however, as there's a new version of the forum software coming out soon that absolutely won't work on our current server configuration. This means that sometime soon - possibly as early as next week - I'll be organising to have the website and forums migrated to a brand-new server. This will inevitably entail some down time, and perhaps a few quirks afterwards. I'll endeavour to keep everyone as in the loop as possible.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		With regard to the new version of the forum software, this will introduce quite a few new features, and some important changes, one of which I'd like to flag here, as it will affect most of us. Once the new forum software is installed, we'll no longer be able to log in using your forum display names - email addresses will be required instead. I'm pretty sure you're able to log in with your email addresses now (will confirm shortly), and if so, I recommend everybody starts doing that immediately, so that the transition to v5 of the software is as trouble-free as possible.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Just to clarify: the server migration and forum software upgrade are two different things, and will be happening at different times. But the latter requires the former, so one step at a time. This will also affect the KLP Publishing and Large Scale Planes websites, the latter of which uses the same software as we do here.
	</p>

	<p>

	</p>

	<p>
		Stay tuned!

	To upload new mask cutting files, it's important to note that this is <em>not</em> done from the Forums section of the site. Instead, choose the Downloads section of the site from the main navigation menu above, as shown in the screenshot below:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" data-fileext="png" data-fileid="1" href="https://www.scalemodelpaintmasks.com/uploads/monthly_2020_07/2072479340_ScreenShot2020-07-19at8_23_39pm.png.6df8157a32fbe91a3cbdffbea2d4fda8.png" rel=""><img alt="1927332968_ScreenShot2020-07-19at8_23_39pm.thumb.png.88302ac455f115e05e608d6a526e6025.png" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="1" style="height:auto;" width="1000" src="https://www.scalemodelpaintmasks.com/uploads/monthly_2020_07/1927332968_ScreenShot2020-07-19at8_23_39pm.thumb.png.88302ac455f115e05e608d6a526e6025.png" loading="lazy" height="230"></a>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Click on the green "Submit a file" button to begin the upload process, and then choose an appropriate category for your design:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" data-fileext="png" data-fileid="2" href="https://www.scalemodelpaintmasks.com/uploads/monthly_2020_07/1989531168_ScreenShot2020-07-19at8_32_04pm.png.29ef4d6c4c3b66732e0cc262734fe78d.png" rel=""><img alt="1678884634_ScreenShot2020-07-19at8_32_04pm.thumb.png.7bab98b7c9b94fc6b5e44ffd4fd1ff35.png" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="2" style="height:auto;" width="1000" src="https://www.scalemodelpaintmasks.com/uploads/monthly_2020_07/1678884634_ScreenShot2020-07-19at8_32_04pm.thumb.png.7bab98b7c9b94fc6b5e44ffd4fd1ff35.png" loading="lazy" height="660"></a>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Note that our subcategories are expanding all the time, so if you can't find something suitable, choose the top-level category that represents the best fit.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Once you've chosen a category, click the "Continue" button, and you'll be presented with the upload screen. You'll also have the option of submitting a screenshot of your file, so that members can get an idea of what it represents. This is highly recommended if you can do it, but not required.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Scroll down further, and you'll be able to give your file a name, and a brief description. You can also give it a version number, though the system will use the default of 1.0.0. If you subsequently make revisions to the file, the system will allow you to replace it with a new one. If this happens, it's pertinent to give it an updated version number.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	That's it!

	Howdy folks,
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Thanks to a suggestion by member <a contenteditable="false" data-ipshover="" data-ipshover-target="https://www.scalemodelpaintmasks.com/index.php?/profile/504-genek/&amp;do=hovercard" data-mentionid="504" href="https://www.scalemodelpaintmasks.com/index.php?/profile/504-genek/" rel="">@GeneK</a>, I've set up a new Downloads section dedicated to cutting files for applications other than paint masks:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<a href="https://www.scalemodelpaintmasks.com/index.php?/files/category/22-non-mask-cutting-files/" rel="">https://www.scalemodelpaintmasks.com/index.php?/files/category/22-non-mask-cutting-files/</a>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	There's also a corresponding section in the forums for the usual discussion:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<a href="https://www.scalemodelpaintmasks.com/index.php?/forum/21-non-mask-applications/" rel="">https://www.scalemodelpaintmasks.com/index.php?/forum/21-non-mask-applications/</a>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The idea here is to have a home for cut files that are intended for applications other than paint masks, such as cutting thin styrene or other materials for making parts. That's just one example, and I'm sure you creative lot could come up with many more!
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Enjoy!

	Howdy folks,
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Due to popular demand, I've created a new Works in Progress section in the forums:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<a href="https://www.scalemodelpaintmasks.com/index.php?/forum/20-works-in-progress/" rel="">https://www.scalemodelpaintmasks.com/index.php?/forum/20-works-in-progress/</a>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	There you can post the progress of builds you're working on that you will be using paint masks on. You can post the entire build from start to finish, or just focus on those sequences that involve the masking and painting process. Either way, the point is to showcase your work, and help people see how it's done.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Have fun!
</p>

	Hi everyone,
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I'm in the process of migrating Scale Model Paint Masks to a new server. This will necessitate a little bit of downtime, which I hope to keep to a minimum. I'll switch the forums to maintenance mode on the old server when I'm ready to switch, and enable them on the new server. If you're still seeing the forums as being offline, then you'll know you're still connecting to the old server, not the new one. Once the new DNS settings have propagated, you should be fine - though this might require you to restart your browser, and possibly even clear your caches.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I won't post any more updates here about this, as it'll be kind of pointless, so keep an eye on the KLP Facebook page for further news. I'll also post an update here once the transfer is complete.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	See you on the other side!
</p>

	Howdy folks,
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I've just created a new section in the forums called Models, under which there is a new forum called Gallery:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<a href="https://www.scalemodelpaintmasks.com/index.php?/forum/17-gallery/" rel="">https://www.scalemodelpaintmasks.com/index.php?/forum/17-gallery/</a>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The purpose of this new section is to have a place where you guys can show off the fruits of your masking labours. Generally speaking, the models should have some relevance to the core purpose of this site, so bear that in mind. If we get enough submissions, I may consider creating genre-based subcategories.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	But for now, have fun - and show us your builds!
